Cautionary Tale

Height in relation to boundary
Make sure you know whether the boundary is at the bottom or the top of a boundary retaining wall.

When the builder sets the floor level before pouring, check that the roof constraint height will be in accordance with your expectations.

Re-planning a top floor and rebuilding a roof can be expensive.

We promote good business practice in architecture by:

  • Sponsoring and presenting CPD activities

  • Publishing “Communiqué” our electronic newsletter

  • Assisting NZIA in the preparation of Practice Notes

We support risk management and loss prevention by:

  • Arranging Professional Indemnity Insurance

  • Arranging extensions to PI for associated risks

  • Facilitating business, office, and private insurance cover

  • Providing access to a “Claims Committee” of architects for advice and support in potential or actual PI claims

We support members’ interests by:

  • Making representations to Parliament, inter-professional committees, and other bodies

  • Co-operating with the NZIA and the NZRAB in matters of mutual interest

  • Being a sponsor of the PSBG superannuation and KiwiSaver schemes set up by and for architects, engineers, surveyors, and related professionals, together with their employees, spouses and families.

NZACS arranges PI cover for over of 90% of NZ architectural firms. Costs are minimised by using bulk purchase of group insurance cover, and by managing claims in a co-operative environment within the profession.

NZACS is independent of the NZIA and NZRAB. It is a co-operative run by and for architects under the Industrial and Provident Society Act 1908, and administered by Kendons Chartered Accountants Ltd. It was set up in 1972 to represent and promote the interests of architects, and to facilitate loss prevention programmes.

Insurances are arranged by Aon New Zealand, NZ’s largest independent insurance brokers and risk management consultants, and part of the multinational Aon group. The NZACS Board of directors is elected by member firms on a rotating basis. Board members are listed under the contact addresses.
